Uncover your best skin with MDerma Skin Needling.

Dramatic Results Without The Drama

As we grow older, our skin ages and becomes loose and less elastic. The main reason for this is the reduction in fibroblast cells, which are the building blocks of collagen proteins that help keep our cells strong and connected. Aging results in wrinkles and sagging, which makes our skin appear very dull — but there is a way to combat this process through Skin Micro-Needling.

Obviously, we can’t stop aging; but we can definitely slow that process down. The MDerma Skin Micro Needling Treatment offers everyone a chance to look healthier and feel better as we age. Skin Micro Needling when conducted by a trained professional using state-of-the-art equipment, is a safe and chemical-free method to trigger new collagen production and kick-start the skin regeneration processes.

What is Skin Micro Needling?

Skin Micro Needling is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that can be used on many areas of the body and on all skin types and skin tones (Fitzpatrick Scale I – VI).

Also referred to as Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI), Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), or Dermal Stamping, Skin Micro Needling Therapy is used to treat skin conditions by stimulating collagen production. Treatments that increase collagen synthesis can make the skin look and act younger. Medical-grade skin needling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that is used to treat skin concerns by generating new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, and more toned skin. The pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injury to the skin and the skin responds by making new collagen-rich tissue. By encouraging the skin to make new tissue, there may be more collagen and elastin to help make the skin firmer and more even in tone and texture.

Other skin treatments such as chemical peels, facials, or microdermabrasion are less intense with little to no recovery time or special aftercare required. However, these options are often best for mild to moderate skin concerns such as early signs of aging or ongoing acne, because they focus more on the surface layers of the skin.

Phase 1 - Skin Inflammation

Piercing the skin with the MDerma Skin Pen triggers the immune system to disinfect wounds, remove debris and increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.

Phase 2 - Skin Proliferation

The wound is naturally rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develop.

Phase 3 - Skin Remodelling

The wound created with the MDerma Skin Pen is replaced with new dermal tissues, collagen, elastin, and blood vessels – replacing the injured skin.

What Can Skin Micro Needling Treat?

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments is predicated on two things: the first being the results you want to achieve, and the second being which part of the body treatment is being performed on. Results are evident after just one treatment, with the most significant results occurring after only four to six treatments. However, the following number of treatments are recommended for the below conditions:

Skin Rejuvenation (Face, Neck, Decolletage, Arms etc): 4 – 6 treatments.
Scars (Acne, Burns & Surgical): minimum 6 treatments
Stretch Marks: 4 – 8 treatments

Our Skin Specialist will advise you more after your skin consultation and as treatments progress. Please note that all treatments are spaced two (2) to six (6) weeks apart to ensure the health and safety of your skin.

How Long Does a Treatment Take?

Between 60 to 90 minutes in total

LED Phototherapy forms an essential component of a skin needling treatment as it better prepares the skin for wound healing. In fact, the latest state of art LED systems (like our XEN System) are TGA approved and are now located in major hospitals, and are considered an essential part of surgical wound, scar, and burn repair.

The LED Treatment lasts 30 minutes utilising Red LED light.

The Skin Needling Treatment takes a further 30 minutes for a full face up to 60 minutes if you add the neck and decolletage area to be included.

The treatment of areas on the body for scars or stretch marks will also take approximately 30 minutes after the LED treatment has been administered to the same body area as is being treated.

When Will I See Results?

It normally takes a few treatments to see maximum results, however, you will notice an improvement in your skin’s appearance after a single treatment.

Your skin should continue to produce new cells long after your treatments for the following 12 months and longer.

Once you reach your optimum results, we recommend 1 – 3 maintenance treatments per year.

Is There Any Recovery Time Needed?

You should expect to see erythema (redness) and edema (slight swelling or tightness similar to the feeling of sunburn) in the treated area on the day of treatment. Most clients can go about their regular activities the day following treatment.

Tiny pinpoint-sized micro scabs will appear 24 – 72 hours after your treatment and may continue to appear for 3 – 7 days. Allow any scabbing to slough off naturally when they are ready. Do not pick at them or try to scrub them off.

You should avoid going to the gym, working out, hot showers, massages, and sun exposure to the area treated for 48 hours after your procedure.

You should not apply makeup on your skin for 24 hours after your treatment or shave for 1-2 days after your treatment. You may apply emollient creams to alleviate dry, tight, or itchy sensations, and 24 hours after treatment you should apply an SPF 30 or higher to protect the treated area from sun exposure

Note: DO NOT apply sunscreen in the immediate 24 hours post-treatment to allow skin pores to close up.

Avoid constant (more than 10 mins direct) sun exposure for two weeks after your treatment.

Is Skin Micro Needling Painful?

Microneedling is not considered to be a painful procedure, but if you have a low pain threshold you can elect to apply numbing cream to the area to be treated 30 – 60 minutes prior to treatment for complete comfort. The sensation is usually described as a slight vibration and a massage with a tingling sensation. More prominent scarring will require deeper needling with which we definitely advise the application of an anaesthetic cream.

As an alternative to the use of anaesthetic creams, we have a TGA-approved Dermacuro pain relief vibration tool clients can use free of charge. The mild vibration relaxes facial muscles and distracts neural pathways to minimise pain and discomfort for Plasma Fibroblast and Skin Needling treatments. The Vibration Tool is an alternative to the use of numbing creams which can delay the visible results from needling, however, the choice is yours as to which method you would like to use.

NOTE: Australian health regulations prevent us from being able to directly offer this anaesthetic numbing pre-treatment in our clinic. As such it will be the responsibility of each client, if they desire to apply a numbing cream, to purchase the numbing cream from a pharmacist, and to apply this themselves as per the instructions that accompany the numbing cream, to the area to be treated prior to your appointment. We suggest 60 minutes prior to your treatment time.

If you choose to use a numbing cream, we recommend NUMIT anaesthetic cream which can be purchased over the counter from your local pharmacist. A 5g tube will be sufficient for a single treatment. Numit contains a harmonious combination of lidocaine 2.5% w/w (also called lignocaine) and prilocaine 2.5% w/w.

Scars and Stretch Marks

Scars do not have to be permanent. Scars can be treated effectively with minimal pain and little to no downtime. Skin needling provides a long-term solution to scarring by stimulating the production of collagen through this minimally invasive treatment.

Scars and stretch marks are a normal part of the body’s healing process and form when the skin repairs itself following a wound or being abnormally stretched.  While the formation of scars may be a natural process, some people find their scars unattractive, which can impact their self-esteem and confidence.

Scarring is highly variable. Scars can be raised, depressed, red, purple, pigmented, or white. Your ethnic background, genetics, and scar location all contribute to scar formation. The administration of skin needling whilst the scar/s are recent (the more purple, pink, or redder scars as opposed to those that have aged and now turned a lighter sometimes white colour) appears is the most effective time to treat them. In other words, don’t leave your scars exposed for years to UV, free radicals, and the slowing effects of an aging body before you decide to book in for some repair work on those scars. The sooner we can start treatments, the better the outcome for your skin.

We can’t treat inflamed or infected skin, so if you’re experiencing a breakout of cystic acne when your appointment is due, it’s best to rebook so you’ve got time to clear the outbreak. We also can’t treat skin displaying sunburn, eczema, psoriasis, or when you have cold sores. Those on blood thinners and other medications should check with our team first. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, we will rebook your appointments for a later time.

Having hydrated skin helps the treatment be a success, so drink up!

The MDerma Skin Micro Needling Pen

The MDerma™ uses sterile, sealed individual and disposable needle cartridges to ensure patient safety. Every cartridge has multiple needles, with proprietary technology, penetrating vertically generating small micro skin channels, while stimulating the natural production of collagen. These channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients, allowing penetration deep to the skin fibroblasts, feeding the cells found in the dermis and the basal layer. This increases the absorption of active ingredients into the skin, stimulating the repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells.

Each cartridge is a One Person One Treatment unit. The sterile cartridge is inserted into the MDerma Pen immediately before treatment. At the completion of treatment the cartridge is removed activating the SafLok within the needle rendering it unable to be used again. The cartridge is then disposed of in a sharps bin.

The treatment is similar to laser treatments, but without the severe side effects or the long recovery time. There are some studies that show it is more effective than traditional microdermabrasion and chemical peels. The disposable needles remove the risk of cross-contamination and the adjustable depth allows treatment that is adaptable to individual needs.

MDerma™ is so advanced, it is appropriate and safe to use in sensitive and previously inaccessible areas such as the upper and lower eyes, lips and nose.

Minimal recovery time. Minimal discomfort.

Our favourite MDerma features
  • Patented SafLok™️ break away safety renders the tip un-usable after its removed – One Patient – One Treatment
  • Elastomeric spring composition provides superior tensile strength for tip retraction
  • Patented anti-backflow membrane and SurVent™️ protection greatly reduces the risk of cross-contamination by eliminating back-flow
  • Advanced SurSpace™️ tip placement with patented 12 tip needle arrangement provides more penetration opportunity
